Tyson Elbert (EPFP 07-08)
Tyson Elbert is a Research Associate and Director of the Education Policy Fellowship Program at the John C. Stennis Institute of Government at Mississippi State University. He received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Missouri and is now a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at Mississippi State. Prior to joining the Stennis Institute, Mr. Elbert, a native of Gallatin, Missouri, was a Research Associate at the Rural Policy Research Institute located at the University of Missouri.
Mr. Elbert has been involved across a wide spectrum of policy issues dealing with matters of social and educational equity, especially as it pertains to rural areas. He directs, coordinates, and supports many programmatic initiatives within the Stennis Institute designed to affect rural regions through activities such as research, policy development, technical assistance, and networking with constituent groups. Additionally, Mr. Elbert is a sought after facilitator for the Congressional Spotlight program.
Professional organizations Mr. Elbert is a member of include Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, Pi Alpha Alpha Honor Society for Public Administration, and Pi Sigma Alpha Honor Society for Political Science. He is also a member of the American Society for Public Administration, the American Political Science Association, the Mississippi Political Science Association, and is an alumnus of both the Mid-South Community College Leadership Program and the Institute for Educational Leadership’s Education Policy Fellowship Program, where he now sits on the Advisory Board. Recently Mr. Elbert has been named Fellow at the Education Policy Center at the University of Alabama, the leading educational policy center located in the southeastern U.S.
