Share |

Where Is the Federal-State Relationship Headed?

This year’s theme is designed to spark a meaningful discussion about the federal-state relationship and where that relationship is headed, given the current political and policy landscape. Fellows attending WPS will have an opportunity to learn about:

  • The public policy landscape across ideological spectrums
  • The evolution of the federal role in education policy
  • State perspectives on the current federal role in education policy
  • The federal policymaking process
  • Leading locally, given the evolving federal-state relationship

The objectives of the 2015 Washington Policy Seminar are to:

  • Understand the core political, ideological, and policy considerations that shape federal and state roles and responsibilities within the public and education sectors, as discussed from diverse perspectives
  • Closely examine the federal-state relationship through substantive concurrent sessions (sessions will be guided by the Fellows’ interests)
  • Provide interactive opportunities for Fellows to problem-solve, make meaning, reflect, and network in cross-site, cross-organizational, and cross-role configurations (e.g., Congressional Insight Simulations, making meaning sessions)
  • Acquire a comprehensive understanding of the federal policy processes, the federal-state relationship, and the leadership challenges and opportunities nested within
